Mood Disorders
(depression, bipolar disorder, dysthymia, cyclothymia)
Major depressive disorder may manifest as feelings of sadness, anhedonia (loss of interest or pleasure in activities previously enjoyed) and other physical or emotional problems that may negatively impact how you feel, think and behave. Appropriate treatment may not only help an individual feel better and improve overall quality of life, but it may also help minimize or prevent a loss of functioning at home or work.
Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
(generalized/social anxiety, panic, PTSD)
Anxiety is a normal response to stress that may help keep an individual alert and aroused, especially in dangerous situations that demand sharp focus, attention and hypervigilance; however, sometimes anxiety/worrying may become excessive, difficult to control and may be associated with a number of physical symptoms. Appropriate treatment may help provide relief from the stress and symptoms, allowing one to recuperate and function at their best in order maximize productivity/likelihood of success.
Sleep Disorders
(insomnia, hypersomnia, parasomnias, narcolepsy)
Good sleep should be restful, restorative and is crucial for our day to day functioning and overall well-being. When problems arise with either quality, amount/duration or timing of sleep, one may experience malaise, fatigue, mental fogginess, distress and difficulty functioning throughout the day -the intensity of these issues also accrues over time. Appropriate treatment may help correct these issues and prevent the worsening of other emotional or mental health issues such as depression or anxiety.
Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is one of the most common psychiatric conditions that affects children, and many of those affected will continue to experience symptoms into adulthood. Often times the diagnosis may be missed during childhood or adolescence, and other times one may not realize they are struggling with symptoms until later in life. Appropriate treatment may help with inattention, hyperactivity or impulsivity, all of which may impact one’s self-esteem, quality of life and level of functioning both at home and work.
